The Tennessee Association For Professional Mediators (TAPM) exists to promote mediation as a valuable and effective process empowering people in resolving disputes.
Mediation is a voluntary process that uses a trained, neutral third party to facilitate the process of working out differences while addressing everyone’s needs and interests. Almost any case, civil or family, is amenable to mediation. Decisions reached in mediation are created by the participants, and are not imposed upon them by a judge. In cases where it is important to preserve the relationship of the parties, such as family, construction, or employment cases, that relationship often can be strengthened by the mediation process, rather than severed by a court decision.
